The Scottish Deaf Sports Council (SDSC) launched the 1st SDSC Golf Championship at Pitlochry Golf Club on 9th June 1984. The event was successful because 29 players played two rounds that day.

SDSC appointed David Wilson as Secretary for future deaf golf competitions, and he received a grant of £100.00 to help with future competitions.

In 1985, the Scottish Deaf Golf Association (SDGA) was founded by David Wilson. A handicap competition was introduced in the 2nd SDSC Golf Championship to make Championship more interesting.

The Association became established in 1986. The SDSC Golf Championship was renamed the SDGA Championship. It was first played on 14th June 1986, and has continued to the present day. In the establishment year, an SDGA logo was created (pictured below).

Two additional events, the SDGA Challenge Trophy and SDGA Dunhill Cup were established immediately by the SDGA.

The SDGA Challenge Trophy was for 3-player teams from Dundee, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh areas. A trophy was donated by Glasgow Deaf Club. A few years later, Glasgow Deaf Club presented the Association with a new trophy to replace the current Challenge Trophy. By that time only Edinburgh and Glasgow were providing teams. It was renamed SDGA Inter Area for competition between the East of Scotland and the West of Scotland so that players from outside Glasgow and Edinburgh could take part.

At the 2nd SDGA Championship in 1987, the handicap competition was split into the SDGA 1st Class Handicap Championship (limit 18) and SDGA 2nd Class Handicap Championship (19-28 for Men, 19-36 for Ladies).

In 1993, Pat Daly donated the Seniors Shield for 9th SDGA Championship in 1994. The Seniors Shield presents a champion who is over the age of 50. It has continued to the present day.

In these days, the average number of players completing was twenty, but over the years the numbers have varied.

As the SDGA developed additional competitions were introduced such as SDGA Stableford Championship in 2002 and The David Wilson Trophy in 2003.

Between 2003 and 2005, The David Wilson Trophy struggled to attract members to make their entries until it was renamed SDGA David Wilson Classic in 2006 to attract most of the members to make their entries to the Fourballs Match Play Knockout Tournament. The cost of the Final at a neutral venue shall be covered by SDGA.

A web site for SDGA was launched in May 2004 to keep full details and results available to all. The web site was enhanced in November 2005 to make it more interesting!

In October 2006, SDGA Inter Area was renamed as SDGA Challenge Cup. From 22nd SDGA Championship would have two handicap divisions between handicap limited 14 and handicap 15-28 for scratch and handicap championships.

[This is the provisional story about the SDGA]
